Hayward Announces Retirement After 14 Seasons

Hayward Played 26 Regular-Season Games for Oklahoma City

Gordon Hayward, a former NBA All-Star, announced his retirement from the league on Thursday after 14 seasons. Hayward played 26 regular-season games for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, averaging 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Hayward was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. He spent seven seasons with the Jazz before joining the Boston Celtics in 2017. Hayward spent three seasons with the Celtics before signing with the Charlotte Hornets in 2020. He was traded to the Thunder in February 2023.

Hayward was a key member of the Celtics team that reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2018. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game that season.

Hayward's retirement marks the end of a successful NBA career. He was a two-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2017. He also helped the Celtics reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2018.
