North Korea Expert Charged with Violating Foreign Agents Registration Act

Former CIA Analyst Faces Indictment for Failing to Disclose Ties to South Korea

WEB SUE MI TERRY, a former CIA analyst and North Korea expert, has been charged with violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by allegedly acting as an agent for Seoul without registering with the U.S. government.

According to an indictment unsealed on Thursday, TERRY, who is now a senior fellow for Korea studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, failed to disclose her relationship with the South Korean government while working as a commentator on North Korea for various media outlets.

The indictment alleges that TERRY received payments from the South Korean government and its embassy in Washington, D.C., for her work, which included writing articles, giving speeches, and appearing on television and radio programs.

TERRY's arrest marks the latest in a series of indictments against individuals accused of failing to register as foreign agents. In recent years, the U.S. government has stepped up its enforcement of FARA, which requires foreign governments and their agents to register with the Department of Justice.

If convicted, TERRY could face up to five years in prison.
